TANMALIN WATER & SANITATION PROJECT
UPDATE July 2007
By July the communities of Tanmalin and Iapnamal had worked tirelessly to
bury the water pipe lines, cement in the tap stands, position the water
tanks and dig the soak away pits. The people were over whelmed to see
water running from the taps for the first time.
The donor expressed that the project was exemplary in their eyes.
Some community members give the real story:
-
I was really afraid when the water came
out of the pipe, Chief Siaka
had to give me leaf medicine before I could go and touch the water
-
All the children ran to the pipe and
shouted
-
Some people laughed and some cried
-
Both groups, Iapnamal and Tamalin
danced across the valley shouting
to each other when the water came through
-
Women children young and old came to
bury the pipes
-
We worked until the sun goes down
-
We are just so grateful the water has
come to help us
-
We made up a custom song to record this
event forever
-
Lots of people ask us about the
project, we are proud of our work
