Raymond is a ni Vanuatu born in White Sands Tanna.
Raymond, educated under the French School system, comes from a background
of teaching in remote island communities leading to years of experience as
a curriculum adviser, school inspector and Provincial Education Officer.
The skills Raymond developed through working with children and adults in
education has enabled him to develop strengths in leadership, team work
and communication.
Raymond’s network includes a wide range of communities throughout the
Province and main island of Efate. His strong interest and understanding
of island culture and customs allows him to easily communicate through the
chiefly systems and gain respect from remote groups situated in the deep
forests of Tanna.
Raymond’s interest to help communities sustain their unique lifestyles and
seek development opportunities through ideas and visions indigenously
generated has led him to set up the NGO.
His travel has included a study tour to New Zealand specifically to learn
from indigenous groups of Maori and Polynesian in relation to education
and development while retaining language and cultural identity. Raymond
also hosted a Pasifika Group to Vanuatu to experience the ancient culture
and custom knowledge of Tanna communities.
His vision includes creating opportunities for youth to remain within
their island communities with skills to support and enhance development
and to support Tafea towards indigenous owned and operated development
initiatives though partnerships of trust, expertise and wisdom.
